Underinsured Motorist Coverage: Optional coverage that provides benefits for bodily injury in the event an at-
fault driver has inadequate liability limits.
Underlying Insurance Policy: The insurance policy that provides initial benefits for a claim.
Underlying Limits: The maximum limits available on an underlying insurance policy.
Underwriter: The person responsible for accepting, declining and rating an insurance policy.
Unearned Premium: That portion of an insurance policy which is returned to a policyholder in the event of a
cancellation.
Uninsurable Risk: A risk unacceptable to an insurance company.
