drivers. With the good student discount, parents with a youthful operator on their policy with a GPA of 3.0 or
higher will save. With the distant student discount, policies with students who are away at school without access
to any vehicle on the policy also save. Progressive also offers some other unique perks such as accident
forgiveness and pet injury coverage.

Insurance fraud is at an all time high, and its prevalence in Florida is simply staggering. In an attempt to protect
themselves from the rise in fraud, many of the major insurance companies have implemented this stipulation for
Florida personal auto new business applications: one or more Personal Injury claims (PIP) in the past 35 months
for all drivers combined makes the risk ineligible for coverage. Of the 7 companies that we represent, GMAC,

Florida’s governor Charlie Crist has announced May as “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month”. “Motorcycle
safety relies on education, awareness and enforcement,” said Captain Mark Welch, chief of public affairs for the
Florida Highway Patrol. “Today’s message is simple – that we all have a responsibility to share the road and to
look out for each other because everyone on our roadways is responsible for motorcycle safety.”

The Florida Department of Financial Services introduced a new online help center (right side: consumer help
online) for consumers last month. The new system is user friendly and will enable Floridians to submit questions
and complaints 24 hours electronically. An extra added benefit is the cost reduction from not having to collect
information by telephone. Earlier in 2009 the Department consolidated 11 consumer call centers into two.

Starting January 1, 2010, the State of Florida has changed the required documentation to prove identity when
applying for your first driver’s license. The new requirements also apply to a person changing their name or if
the one-time “convenience” renewal option has been used. If the above do not apply than a Florida driver can
renew their license online or through the mail.
