Changing Your Insurance Contract

Whenever you need to change something on your auto insurance policy such as increasing bodily injury liability limits or adding a new vehicle you must request an endorsement. Usually all it takes is a phone call to the company or agent to get this task accomplished. Endorsements can sometimes result in an increase or decrease in premium which may entitle you to a refund check or require an additional payment. There are many different types of endorsements you can request and we will discuss some of them here.

Coverage Increase: Increasing your coverage may be required if you are planning on financing a new or used vehicle. Comprehensive and collision coverage with deductibles of $500 for each is usually what the bank or car dealer require. If you received a DWI or DUI and were convicted of such, the state of Florida requires FR44 insurance. Adding Drivers: In order to add a driver to your existing policy you must have all of their information available. This info includes Full legal name, date of birth, address, social security number and driver's license number. The company will run a MVR report and clue report with the State of Florida to determine the driving history. A better their driving history will lower your auto insurance premium. Ask your agent about additional discounts for the added driver such as good student discount or military discount. Changing Vehicles: Changing vehicles is an endorsement which occurs frequently with insurance carriers as people acquire new vehicles all the time. Some people choose to lease their vehicle and rotate them out every 2 to 3 years when the newer models come out. In order to complete an endorsement to change a vehicle on your policy you must have the year, make and model along with the VIN or Vehicle Identification Number. This number can be found on the registration or vehicle dash as well as the interior of the threshold.
