Traffic Violations And Car Insurance

police officer giving a driver a traffic citation.Traffic violations can be so expensive and frustrating that most people avoid receiving them at all cost. This article will discuss some of the do’s and don’ts regarding receiving a traffic ticket. Obeying the law of course is the only way to stay safe and out of court.

Generally speaking, there are 2 types of infractions; moving, and non-moving violations. Moving Violations are more costly and add more points to your license. Examples of moving violations include speeding, running a red light, or improper lane changes. Examples of non-moving violations include expired tag, improper equipment, or parking tickets. You always have the right to defend yourself in court and can elect to do this by notifying the issuing government body indicated on the ticket.

Getting pulled over: Getting pulled over can be a scary ordeal. Sometimes we get pulled over and don’t even know which law we have broken. Always stay calm and have your license, auto insurance and registration easily accessible. The officer will usually explain why he pulled you over right before he asks for your documentation. If he/she does issue a citation try not to argue with them as you will have the opportunity to defend yourself in court. Sometimes the officer will not even show up in court which is grounds for an automatic dismissal of the ticket.

Serious infractions: It is definitely possible to be taken to jail if you commit a serious offense such as “hit and run”, DUI or driving with a suspended license. If you do get arrested, they will have your vehicle impounded and after you see the judge in the morning you will have to pay to get your car out. God forbid you should hit something or someone, make sure you stay on the scene until authorities arrive. If you hit a person immediately call the police and report it. The booking process is long and tedious and the jails are generally very unpleasant so try to avoid getting into trouble. Car insurance after a DUI in Florida requires the FR44 filing attachment to the policy.
