Vehicle Maintenance

Americans drive their vehicles just about everywhere these days and maintaining them is just as an important factor of ownership as maintaining a valid Florida auto insurance policy. This article will discuss several ways you can properly maintain your new or used vehicle.

Oil Changes. Oil changes are so important because oil is the lubrication for your engine. Keeping it clean and changed is necessary due to impurities and the buildup of them. If you drive a performance car, synthetic oil is recommended. It is more expensive than regular oil, however functions better and lasts longer. The shop you go to for oil changes can check other things as well such as:

Tire pressure and tread. Properly inflated tires are crucial for road safety and can be easily checked with a tire pressure gauge. The proper level is indicated on the outside edge of the tire itself and can be adjusted using the tire inflation valve. The tread is also important to look at. Tread can determine whether or not you need new tires.

Fluid levels. You need to check all your fluid levels to make sure different systems and parts function properly. Brake fluid, steering fluid, windshield washer fluid, transmission fluid and radiator fluid are the main ones to look for. Check to make sure the fluid is clean and at the right level as indicated on the dipstick. Fluids should be changed regularly to ensure good vehicle performance and road life.

Air filter and Engine compartment. Checking the air filter is necessary to keep the engine clear of all bugs or debris. Change them regularly and consider upgrading to a “K&N” filter (or one similar) to increase the amount of air that cools the engine. Check the compartment for any leaves or foreign objects and clear them if spotted. Check the battery for signs of corrosion and clean the terminals (With the vehicle in the off position of course) with a damp towel. Insure your batteries in Florida are well maintained and replaced promptly when needed due to the hot weather.
